Bright Frog:
A natural haven.

Pond and path in a natural garden.

In the centre of Cambridge there was a large, neglected, garden with huge potential. The new owners wanted to take advantage of its situation and create a haven for wildlife in the city centre.
An old pond was drained and backfilled, the path lifted and the whole garden dug over as it was completely riddled with a rampant bamboo.
Next we dug out the new pond, lined it with sand and fitted a butyl liner and then using rocks from the old garden we built the edge. We also fitted a pump and built a subltle cascade feature running out from under the rocks and ferns and finally made a small beach area using scottish cobbles.
We then set about laying the new pathway using paviers that had been reclaimed from the original pathway. These blocks were reset on sand, over landscape fabric, on a 100mm sub base of compacted hardcore. Once the path was completed we landscaped the garden so that it gently undulated and naturalised when planted up with native plant species.
At the end of the day the new garden proved to such a great success it looked as as if it had been there forever...
Total budget for this project was £3800.00.
